Mental Health & Wellbeing Support

We place a high importance on the emotional health and wellbeing of all our students. Our approach is proactive, inclusive and based on early support, targeted intervention and specialist care where needed.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Support in school

Students can access support at any time by speaking to:

  • Their Tutor or Head of Year
  • A trusted member of staff
  • Reporting concerns via: reportit@warlinghamtlt.co.uk

For safeguarding concerns:

Our approach

We use a graduated approach to wellbeing, ensuring the right support is provided at the right time:

Universal support (for all students)

  • Positive relationships with staff and strong pastoral care
  • Tutor time, PSHE and wellbeing education
  • Emotion coaching and consistent routines
  • Opportunities for student voice and support networks
  • A focus on kindness, resilience and belonging

Targeted support (for some students)

  • Small group support (e.g. social skills, resilience, exam stress)
  • Check-ins with key adults
  • Nurture and mentoring programmes
  • Support from trained staff (e.g. ELSA, Mental Health Support Team)

Specialist support (for a small number of students)

  • Access to school counsellors
  • Individual support plans and therapeutic interventions
  • Support from external professionals (e.g. CAMHS, Educational Psychologists)

This graduated, trauma-informed approach helps ensure students receive support early and effectively, improving wellbeing, engagement and attendance.

Additional support available in school

Depending on need, students may be supported by:

  • School counsellors
  • Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA)
  • Pastoral and behaviour support teams
  • Attendance and safeguarding teams
  • External mental health professionals

Support is coordinated through a clear referral process, ensuring students access the right level of help at the right time

send - additional guidance

Some students with SEND may experience:

  • Anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties or sensory overload
  • Barriers to communicating their feelings
  • Increased vulnerability to mental health challenges

We provide personalised, inclusive support, including:

  • Adapted approaches and reasonable adjustments
  • Individual support or pastoral plans where needed
  • A structured assess–plan–do–review approach
  • Close collaboration between SEND, pastoral and safeguarding teams

We also recognise that wellbeing and behaviour are closely linked, and support focuses on understanding underlying needs, not just responding to behaviours
