Preparing Year 12 & 13 for their next steps

The beginning of the Spring Term at Warlingham Sixth Form College has seen a real focus on preparing students for their next steps.

In Year 12, students are excited to start researching possible work experience placements which will be taking place in the Summer Term. They will be using the online platform Unifrog to record their placements, which also allows them to search for university and apprenticeship opportunities.

The Year 12 students are also preparing for their upcoming mock interview day at the end of January. As part of this, the students have to complete a CV which will be scrutinised by their interviewer and promises to be a great experience in preparing students for the process of applying for jobs in the future.

Finally, Year 12 have also been introduced to programmes run by Sutton Trust including a Summer School for both universities and apprenticeships. These enable students to experience what life will be like in pursuing such opportunities in the future. If students are interested in applying, then please do check our padlet site here for more details or direct them to speak to a member of the College team.

Whilst students in Year 12 are starting to research their next steps, the current Year 13s are approaching the deadline for their UCAS applications which is on Wednesday 25th January. Many of our students have already received plenty of offers from universities including Lucia who is hoping to study Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford. In preparation for the process, Lucia and many other students were given support with the different parts of the application process including writing personal statements, admissions tests and having a mock interview.

Getting an offer from Oxford has been one of the highlights of my time at Warlingham and I believe the College staff had a huge help in that. They made me feel really supported throughout the process of applying to university and I had some great advice and suggestions on my personal statement to make it the best it could have been

Likewise, Year 13 students interested in applying for apprenticeships are also receiving support from upcoming guest speakers on how to search and apply for such opportunities.

We wish all our students the best of luck in researching their next steps and are looking forward to supporting Year 13 students in making their next exciting move after Warlingham Sixth Form College.
