Mental Health and Wellbeing Update

In response to both student and parent feedback on concerns around mental health and wellbeing, we have been looking to extend our provision and wanted to keep you updated on a few developments recently and the programme for next half term.

Counselling Provision

From January, we will have full-time counselling provision delivered by our newly appointed school counsellor, Sharon Rickard, and our existing counsellor, Lorraine Sheppard. We are really excited to have both of them on board and their plans for development include a range of talking and support therapies as well as a new "drop-in" service where students can self-refer for additional support. We additionally are receiving regular support from both Learning Space and YMCA Mindworks who are providing additional counselling services to a number of our students.

Mindworks Surrey

We are also introducing, alongside Mindworks Surrey, some small group interventions which have been designed specifically for our students based on the feedback from the student and parent voice. The sessions running from January include:

  • Positive Coping Strategies
  • Managing Exam Stress

Following on from this, we intend to have sessions on:

  • Supporting with Anxiety
  • Depression and Low Mood
  • Body Image and Self-esteem
  • Friendships and Bullying

Parent Information Sessions

In the Spring Term, we are planning on delivering some parent information evenings and workshops on a range of topics around mental health and wellbeing. These include, an Introduction to the Adolescent Brain and Supporting your Child in Managing Exam Stress. There will be a further update with dates and times in the new year but, in the meantime, the YMCA are running online parent workshops the details of which can be found below:

If you feel your child would benefit from any of the provision available, please email your child's Form Tutor or Head of House who will be able to make the necessary referrals.
