Year 9 Sports Ambassadors help at Atwood Primary School Sports Day

On Thursday 23rd June, our Year 9 Warlingham Sports Ambassadors were invited again to attend and help run the Sports Day at Atwood Primary Academy.

The nature of this event allows our students to have plenty of leadership experience, helping students across the different age groups get excited to be involved in different sporting activities and competition. This was a very well-run sports day, led by Lucy Bayliss, who was very complimentary about our students and impressed with their connection and communication skills with the younger age groups. She said that she could not have run this event without them.

Promoting physical activity by using students from our school to inspire the slightly younger generation is a great modelling experience and hopefully improves the wellbeing of all involved. Our students led the primary students in a variety of sporting competitions in the morning and then supervised them in the more traditional sports day races in the afternoon. It was wonderful to see the reaction on the primary children’s faces when they received a sticker at the end of their race from one of our students.

Congratulations to the following Year 9 students who did a great job in leading and inspiring the primary children at Atwood. They were: Amy C, Lucy C, Lucy H, Teagan M, Poppy H, Abi M, Ruby M, Jess C, Mie-Rose P, Sienna D, Tia M, Connor R, Ethan B, Oliver S, Harry H, Charlie H and Callum C.

Perhaps one of the most memorable aspects of this day was at the end when our Year 9 Sports Ambassadors were asked to take on the Primary Mum’s in a Tug of War. I was fairly confident that our lovely Year 9s would win, only to find the rope snapped mid competition! Fortunately, no injuries occurred but great entertainment! We really do have some super young leaders in the making!
